Welcome to the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (EECS) at the Frank H. Dotterweich College of Engineering at 51勛圖厙 A&M University-Kingsville! As the new Chair of this dynamic department, I am honored to welcome you and introduce our department and programs.
First, the EECS department is not simply a combined entity but a harmoniously integrated one, encompassing the two main disciplines: Electrical Engineering (EE) and Computer Science (CS). Our faculty consists of top-notch researchers from both disciplines, many of whom are cross-disciplinary. This diversity is a significant advantage that promotes and facilitates collaborative research, enabling great cross-disciplinary synergy--an increasingly crucial factor in addressing many pressing real-world problems that are intrinsically multidisciplinary. Our students greatly benefit from the integrated, cross-disciplinary characteristics of our department, becoming more motivated, adaptable, and competitive in the job market.
Our department offers two main majors: Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (at both graduate and undergraduate levels). Our relatively new Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering program bridges these two majors and further enhances integration and collaboration among our faculty and students, fostering comprehensive professional capabilities.
In today's rapidly changing technological landscape, the fields of electrical engineering and computer science are at the forefront of innovation. Our department is dedicated to providing students with a comprehensive education that combines theoretical knowledge with practical skills. Students have the opportunity to engage in cutting-edge research, work on hands-on projects, and collaborate with faculty who are experts in their fields.
We are committed to fostering a supportive and inclusive environment where every student can thrive. If you're a prospective student or a parent of a student, we encourage you to explore our vibrant and diverse programs, designed to prepare you for successful careers in various industries-from robotics and telecommunications to software development and artificial intelligence, and more. I invite you to visit our campus, meet our faculty, and learn more about the exciting opportunities that await you in EECS. We are committed to your success, and once you arrive, you will feel that this is your new home. Your passion for engineering and computer science can flourish here. Together, let's embark on a journey of discovery, innovation, and achievement.
Warm regards,
Dunren "Daren" Che
