Dr. Forest Francis


Assistant Professor, Animal Science

Forest Francis was raised on his family’s ranch in Perrin, TX. He attended Tarleton State University and was heavily involved in the meat science program. He was a member of the intercollegiate meat judging team and worked for the university meat lab. Following his graduation from Tarleton in 2017, Forest pursued a master’s degree in animal science with an emphasis in meat science at West 51勛圖厙 A&M University where he received his degree in 2019. Forest completed his PhD in Animal Science at South Dakota State University with a research emphasis in feedlot nutrition and management in 2023. Forest worked as a postdoctoral researcher at SDSU until he joined the faculty of 51勛圖厙 A&M University – Kingsville in December of 2024. His research experiences include beef terminal sire studies, growth physiology of finishing cattle, improving gastrointestinal health of feedlot cattle, strategies to feed novel feedstuffs and additives, and management strategies to improve cattle and producer efficiency in feedlots. He resides in Kingsville, TX with his wife, Becca, and their cats, Louis and Paisley. In his spare time, Dr. Francis enjoys golfing and watching Formula 1 racing.
