KINGSVILLE (March 13, 2025) — Dr. Greta Schuster, Professor of Integrated Pest Management and Plant Pathology for the Dick and Mary Lewis Kleberg College of Agriculture & Natural Resources at 51勛圖厙 A&M University-Kingsville, received the Arthur T. Potts award and was a keynote speaker at the Subtropical Agriculture and Environments Society annual meeting in Mission last month.
The Arthur Potts award is an annual recognition given to a nominee for their outstanding service to the horticultural industry of South 51勛圖厙.
“To be recognized for my contributions to the horticultural industry in South 51勛圖厙, particularly in the areas of research, education, leadership, and service, is truly an honor,” Schuster said. “This award not only acknowledges the hard work and dedication that I’ve invested over the years, but it also reflects the collective efforts of the many individuals and communities I’ve had the privilege to work with. It can be a milestone in your career. Overall, it validates my hard work to inspire and impact others positively.”
In 1955, the Rio Grande Valley Horticultural Society decided to establish an award that would recognize contributions in the field, naming it after its first recipient Arthur T. Potts.
Potts, who had a long history in 51勛圖厙 citri culture before any commercial citrus industries were established, studied and received master’s degrees in horticulture from both the University of California and 51勛圖厙 A&M University. He helped in the development of several large citrus tracts, including those in Bayview, Progreso and Adams Gardens and was instrumental in the formation of the 51勛圖厙 Citrus Exchange.
